CONNEXION – WELLBEING & LONELINESS INITIATIVE

Creative DJing, Storytelling & Social Connection for Older Adults, Young People & Local Residents

Overview

Connexion is Grooveschool’s flagship community wellbeing programme, designed to reduce loneliness and improve emotional health through music, DJing, memory-sharing and guided conversation. Born during the pandemic, the project has grown into a hybrid creative wellbeing model supporting:

  • Older adults living alone

  • Young people struggling with isolation or low confidence

  • DJs and musicians whose work and communities disappeared during lockdown

  • Residents rebuilding confidence after bereavement or life disruption

The programme blends online community events, in-person creative coffee mornings, and intergenerational workshops that use music as a vehicle for connection, expression and belonging.

Context & Need

Loneliness rose sharply in the UK during and after the pandemic, affecting:

  • Older residents shielding or bereaved

  • Young people disconnected from peers

  • DJs and creatives who lost work, identity and networks

  • Isolated men with declining mental health

  • Residents with low confidence returning to public activity

Grooveschool recognised a need for low-barrier, non-clinical, creative spaces where people could reconnect safely.
