CONNEXION – WELLBEING & LONELINESS INITIATIVE
Creative DJing, Storytelling & Social Connection for Older Adults, Young People & Local Residents
Overview
Connexion is Grooveschool’s flagship community wellbeing programme, designed to reduce loneliness and improve emotional health through music, DJing, memory-sharing and guided conversation. Born during the pandemic, the project has grown into a hybrid creative wellbeing model supporting:
Older adults living alone
Young people struggling with isolation or low confidence
DJs and musicians whose work and communities disappeared during lockdown
Residents rebuilding confidence after bereavement or life disruption
The programme blends online community events, in-person creative coffee mornings, and intergenerational workshops that use music as a vehicle for connection, expression and belonging.
Context & Need
Loneliness rose sharply in the UK during and after the pandemic, affecting:
Older residents shielding or bereaved
Young people disconnected from peers
DJs and creatives who lost work, identity and networks
Isolated men with declining mental health
Residents with low confidence returning to public activity
Grooveschool recognised a need for low-barrier, non-clinical, creative spaces where people could reconnect safely.
