RL MUSIC EDUCATION
Creative Music Education that Changes the Track
DJing, music production and mentoring for schools, colleges, charities and individuals.
With a focus on re-engagement, confidence and wellbeing.
Welcome
Introduction
Hi, I’m Richard Littler – a freelance creative music educator, DJ and project lead based in South London.
I help young people and adults rediscover learning through modern music-making: DJ skills, music production, podcasting and live performance. My work is especially focused on:
Students who are disengaged or at risk of exclusion
Neurodivergent young people and those with SEND
Adults looking for creative wellbeing and a way back into music
Over the last 15+ years I’ve delivered DJ and music technology workshops across state schools, specialist provisions, community projects and international charities – as well as running my own charity, Grooveschool CIO.
If you’re looking for a practical, relational and genuinely engaging way to support your learners or community, you’re in the right place.
Flagship Programmes
1. DJ Mentoring & Re-engagement
1-to-1 and small-group DJ sessions designed to re-engage students with school, build self-esteem and offer a positive outlet.
In-school, college or studio-based
Suitable for KS3/KS4, Post-16 and SEND
Supports attendance, behaviour and wellbeing targets
Ideal for: pupils on reduced timetables, those at risk of exclusion, or young people who need a different way to learn.
2. Music Production & Technology Pathways
Hands-on music production using Logic, Ableton, Maschine and Reason, plus DJ software such as Rekordbox, Serato and Traktor.
Whole-class, small-group and 1-to-1 formats
Supports GCSE / BTEC performance and coursework
Can run as enrichment, alternative provision or after-school clubs
Ideal for: schools wanting to modernise their music offer and engage learners who don’t connect with traditional instruments.
3. School Workshops & Projects
Bespoke projects for schools, music hubs and youth organisations, including:
DJ and music-technology taster days
Term-long projects with performance outcomes
Learning Outside the Classroom (LOTC) visits to a working studio
Ideal for: headteachers, SENCOs, music leaders and AP providers who want visible impact and a partner who can help design the right programme.
4. Consultancy & Project Management
Support for charities, youth organisations and foundations looking to set up or improve community music spaces and programmes.
Previous work includes:
Grooveschool CIO (South London)
Music4Children (Streatham)
Last Night a DJ Saved My Life Foundation projects in Tanzania and Sierra Leone
Deaf Rave charity – world’s first DJ sessions for deaf adults
What’s Different About My Approach
Mentoring first, music second – the decks and laptops are tools for relationship, confidence and self-expression.
Trauma-aware and neurodivergent-friendly – I’ve worked extensively in SEND colleges, specialist provision and with young people who’ve been “bandied about” in the system.
Real-world music experience – record shops, clubs, international projects and a long history of sharing that expertise with learners.
Measurable impact – from attendance and engagement to GCSE outcomes and progression into further study, work or creative projects.
Who I Work With
Schools & Colleges – state, independent, SEND and alternative provision
Charities & Community Organisations – youth centres, hubs, CICs
Music Services & Hubs – strategic support + delivery
Individuals & Families – private DJ or music-production lessons, mentoring and creative coaching
